Heaven on Earth

Devon Star Heads Home for Brand New Musical

Tickets go on sale today for the brand-new musical starring Devon’s own Hugh Maynard.

Telling the story of Adam and Eve Heaven on Earth comes to Exeter Westpoint Arena from April 26 to April 29 2018.

Tickets to see the show in Exeter go on sale today at midday and are available from www.seetickets.com

Heaven on Earth is a classic re-telling of the story of Adam and Eve and their fall from Paradise.  It is an exhilarating story of love, loss, and redemption, and an exploration of the universal search for the meaning of life.

A huge production is planned which will see the Garden of Eden created in all its magnificent glory with a whole host of special effects including fire, water and animatronics.

Hugh, who was raised in Paignton, will star as Adam in the spectacular new musical alongside first lady of the West End Kerry Ellis as Eve, and featuring the voice of Russell Watson as God.

For Hugh, the Exeter shows will mark a return to his roots. Having attended school at Curledge Street Primary School, Paignton Academy and South Devon Tech, Hugh played trumpet in the Devon Youth Orchestra. And before moving to London to train as an actor, Hugh performed in numerous holiday parks, nightclubs and bars around Devon and Cornwall before beginning a career in musical theatre.

His professional roles to date have included Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon Live, Sweeney Todd and The Lion King. Hugh was also the former sixth member of Tenors of Rock.

Speaking about the role of Adam, Hugh said: “I am overwhelmed to be taking on such an incredible role. It is very exciting to be part of a brand-new production but to also be taking on such an important role in that show is absolutely fantastic.

“I am really excited about beginning rehearsals for Heaven on Earth as this is going to be an absolutely spectacular production which will really take people’s breath away.

“To then learn that Heaven on Earth has four shows in my home county makes this even more special.

“Devon is a wonderful place. Of course, I have many special memories of my childhood there and I am really looking forward to heading home while working. Hopefully there will be some familiar faces in the Exeter audiences.”

Heaven on Earth will be touring arenas across the UK from December 2017 through to May 2018.

This spectacular new musical is brought to audiences by Eden International Productions and journeys back to the very beginning of time.

Writer Sara Jeffs is the creator behind the script, music and lyrics.

She said: “It is so very exciting to see my script coming to life in Heaven on Earth.

“This brand-new musical, and its original emotive songs, will resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds, and stay with the audience long after they view this thrilling and visual treat of a production.

“The story of Adam and Eve is the oldest and greatest story ever told and whether you are someone with faith or someone who just enjoys the theatre and a great show this will appeal to you.”

The creative team behind Heaven on Earth includes director & choreographer Racky Plews - American Idiot (West End and Tour), Footloose (West End and Tour), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Tour), set designer Jacqueline Pyle - Robbie Williams (Take The Crown Tour), Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremony (UK), Take That (Progress Live Tour), and arranger Geoff Alexander - Harry Potter, Notting Hill, Conductor for Gravity.
