Dolls House & Miniature Fair, January 2020

Dolls House & Miniature F

After many years of running this very popular Dolls House and Miniature Fair at the Westpoint Conference Centre, the Fair Organiser Wendy Hobday of Wendy’s World Fairs has now retired from this particular show and MGM Fairs have taken over. The Exeter Dolls House Fairs will still be held twice a year, with the first show in January with a second one in August.

MGM Fairs have been running Dolls House and Miniature Fairs for over 20 years and in 2020 will have shows in 17 different counties of the UK. See their website at www.mgmfairs.co.uk for their complete show list.

Collecting dolls houses, shops and other settings in miniature is already a very popular hobby in the U.K. enjoyed by both men and women collectors. All these collectors’ fairs, such as this one at Exeter, attract exhibitors and visitors from all over the country.

Almost everything imaginable, can be made perfectly to 1/12th or related scales. Potters throw tiny items on their full sized wheels. Silversmiths execute their craft perfectly in reduced size. There is an abundance of furniture to be had for a variety of time periods, so whether you wish to replicate your grandmother’s front room or a Victorian kitchen scene it can all be bought at the show.

You will be able to buy a house or shop, from a humble dwelling to a great mansion, to get you started. Then you will find all the furniture, accessories and inhabitants to complete your vision. Minute pottery, glassware, working lights, fine lingerie, plants, animals, silverware, paper goods, foods, ornaments, - the list goes on, and is limited only by your imagination and your purse! Much of the work on sale is made by today’s finest craftspeople, but there is something for every purse or wallet.

There is practically no item in the real world which cannot be found recreated as a 1/12th scale miniature. False teeth, a toothbrush, corsets and stockings, a wedding cake, plants and flowers, well dressed ‘people’ - the list is endless. There is also wood, electrics, and tools available to help the collector make their own items, or fit their own electrics and lighting.

Children are welcome, accompanied by an adult, but in general it is an adult orientated event. We do not allow buggies or strollers into the fair rooms, but we are very happy to look after them in the foyer, if you wish to carry your child around the fair.

We are delighted to advise that the Exeter Dolls House Club will also be attending with an exhibition of their projects, so do come along and marvel at the ideas and the expertise of re-creating those ideas in miniature. For more fair information and a list of traders attending, see our website at www.mgmfairs.co.uk

Admission Tickets are available on the door, or from our website, and your ticket entitles you to enter the FREE PRIZE DRAW which is called three times throughout the show day, when you could be a lucky winner of a miniature collectable. The venue is signposted and has plenty of FREE parking, with level access to the show room, which is wheelchair friendly, light refreshments will also be available in the café area of the show.

Anyone who visits the fair for the first time is promised a day of excitement and wonder, so make sure you pay a visit to the Exeter Dolls house Fair on Sunday 5 January 2020.
